Rodeo comes to the Desert Fair

The rodeo is coming to Waiouru shortly. Well, sort of. Organisers of the Waimarino Rodeo, to be held at n e a r b y Raetihi on Saturday March 19, a week after the Desert Fair, have decided to attend the fair to promote their show. They've managed to rope in a bucking machine and will be challenging fair-goers to give it a go. Rodeo promoter Gor-

don Eade says it may be mechanical but it's a mean machine and can sorely test even the best bronco riders. It has four gear settings: the first for ladies, the second for strong ladies and young men, the third for strong men and the fourth for champions. The rodeo stall will also be selling slushy ice drinks, hotdogs and chips, lucky dips for children and, of course, tickets to the rodeo at

$3 for adults and $1.50 for children. Starting at 9a.m. on Saturday March 19, the rodeo includes a full competition and programme running until 4p.m. It's to be held in the new arena at the showgrounds. Organisers are hoping for about 2500 people. So far 140 contestants have entered the six main events: bareback riding, bulldogging, saddle bronc riding, bullriding, calf roping and barrel racing.
