Artist wins scholarship

Susan Hancock, a 25-year-oId graphic artist from Ohakune, has won the Chelsea Sugar art scholarship for 1988. Susan was selected by the submission of a folio and a subsequent interview. Over 1700 inquiries and entries were at-

tracted by this $7,500 prestigious award. Mr Greg Whitecliffe described Susan's folio as "being of the highest calibre". This award entitles Susan to a years' course in fine arts at the Whitecliffe Art School Auckland. Susan was educated at Ohakune Primary School and at Ruapehu

College, Ohakune. Her interest in drawing began at an early age but academic studies took precedence until Susan graduated to the seventh form. At this stage Susan says she lcnew that she wanted to follow her

interest in Art and submitted a folio for University Entrance. Susan has a diploma in graphic arts from the Wellington Polytechnic. She believes this background and developing skills helped her win this scholarship.
