For Mayor
Mr John Martin declined to answer the the questions put to mayoral candidates but submitted the following: I see the new district council being complimentary to clubs and organisations and assisting when the need arises so that our community develops strong cultural and physical abilities and that the district is run on sound financial and practical ideals. We need to study the impact of development and its costs, offset against the financial abilities of ratepayers to pay. To exist the district needs development, but not at the expense of pensioners and young families. Any loss of services, government or otherwise must be recognised and the effect of any loss debated and if possible reinstated. the loss of government services are a council challenge and must be taken up so that this district loses as little as possible. If the above are upheld they will ultimately have effect on the youth of our district in employment and development.
