'STANDBY' READY

The Waimarino 'Standby" service is still standing by. Not many people seem to need help according to the Waimarino Standby Committee secretary Mrs Dorothy McNie. The Standby Trust was established in 1987 to provide home help for anybody in need. A team of able helpers is available but the phones are silent. Services they offer include light household chores, cooking of meals, writing of letters for elderly or disabled people, transport to doctor/dentist/shops, minding of children while parents have a break, emergency help of any kind or post-operative help if needed. A friendly helper can step into a private home at short notice. The reason the Standby Trust was established was to provide public help.
