AMALGAMATION COSTS $36,413 SO FAR

The Waimarino District Council amalgamation has cost $36,413 to date. District manager John Murrihy told the steering committee last week that costs of $7118 had been incurred from December 19 to January 31. These included $5866 on his salary, $800 on rent, $250 on the crest competition and $202 on vehicle expenses. Expenditure prior to December 18 totalled $29,294. On the basis of the cost-sharing formula determined in the scheme of amalgamation, Waimarino meets 43 per cent of the costs, Ohakune 37 per cent and Raetihi 20 per cent. Asked by a councillor if an application had been made to the Internal Affairs Department for reimbursement of expenses, Mr Murrihy said this could not be done until receipts for the expenditure had been issued. But it would be done soon.
