BUSINESS ASSOCIATION CALLS PUBLIC MEETING
The Ruapehu South Business Association are to hold a public meeting to discuss the draft marketing plan the group compiled and released December last year. The meeting will be held at the Ohakune Hotel at 7.30pm this Thursday February 25. The draft marketing plan brings together various possible strategies for promoting tourism in the Waimarino area, with particular emphasis on attracting visitors year round. The purpose of the plan was to be a catalyst for discussion, hence the call for a public meeting. At the last meeting of the Ruapehu South Business Association there was discussion on a number of topics including the general attitude towards tourists in the Waimarino, especially among service people. Those present generally agreed that education was essential. Another topic of discussion was information kiosks. The group has been investigating the erection of kiosks at Makatoke Viaduct and Raukawa Falls on the Parapara Highway. Kiosks available through the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department cost $9,000 though the group heard that member Gavin Moore had worked out a price of $25,000. He was asked to calculate a 7am quote for the RSBA. The National Roads Board is to be asked by RSBA for road signs designating the Waimarino highways as an alternative route for AucklandWellington travellers.
