Teachers' action won't affect schools
Myra Crowley, liaison officer for the New Zealand Education Institute and Raetihi s c h o o 1 teacher, says it is with regret that teachers feel it necessary to take some form of industrial action over the proposed State Sector Bill. Teachers from Waimarino schools are not holding a stop work in protest, but will be travelling to Taihape today, 9 February, for a meeting at 5pm. At this meeting the full implications of the bill will be explained by a national executive member of NZEI. The principles which are of great concern are those which affect conditions of service, said Mrs Crowley. She said NZEI had worked for many years to improve conditions not only for teachers but also to create a more satisfactory learning atmosphere for students. without full support, teachers in the Wanganui Education Board area are attending meetings out of school hours to avoid unnecessary inconvenience to parents and pupils, said
Mrs Crowley. She said if it becomes vital to proceed with further action teachers would need the wholehearted support and co-operation of parents and the community.
