All set for best A&P Show
The Waimarino A&P Show on 20, 21 February is well on the way to being the best ever according to organisers. "It's not just going to be a show - it's going to be a super show" said Show Secretary Bcrnice Frost. "And it's Waimarino people who are going to make it that way". Anne Boyd and Jim Frost have bcen responsible for getting the local people to participate, with great success. There will be many stalls and displays, from handcrafts to music. Anyone can come and set up whatever they like to do as long as they book space with Secretary Bernice
Frost. They can sell or display or demonstrate their activity and lots of folk are going to do just that. Don't bring lunch, buy it on the grounds, there will be a varicty available. President this year is Brian Chambcrs, popular stock agcnt and rugby rcferee. The Army will be there with three armoured vehicles and possibly a Scorpion tank. Turoa Skifields have a display, Conservation Department and Deerstalkers have exciting stuff to show. Maungarongo Maori group have handcrafts and music for the show. Also will be clothes and shoes,
cake dccorating, floral art, dolls, food and drink. One of the main attractions in the small displays will be Mike McGce from Wanganui with his leather craft - not just plaited belts but leather sculptures, picture frames, beautiful work which is exported overseas. There will be a pet parade at lunchtime - children bring your pets along. There will be a pet lamb •class in the sheep section, with winners in the Grand Parade at 1.15. Colin Webb is running a precision car driving contest in the Rodeo arena. The Waimarino Gun Club have a claybird shooting competition out the back - have a go, you may be a natural.
There is a tug-o-war with $100 plus swccpstakc in prizes. Get up a tcam and ring Claude Berry for details. The Lions Club have 3wheeler little motorbikes for the kids to ride. Therc's a merry-go-round and a bouncing castle. Cars and machinery will be on display plus a silage making demonstration by an expert silage maker. The horse section looks as strong as ever, with a new Show Hunters' Competition this year. Waimarino is on the points circuit for the Horse of the Year Show in this section and already some top horses and riders have entered in the competitions. It has been a good season for flowers and veges and all home. gardeners are invited to enter at the produce shed. - Schedules are available at Elders Pastoral and McLeans Bookshop Raetihi or phone the Secretary and have one posted. The cattle classes are. going to be well patronised with some interesting breeds entered. On display will be Simmental, Charolais, Angus, Hereford, Limousin and Santa Gertrudis. Cattle steward for the event is Jamie Proude. There are two classes - cow with calf at foot and pen of two 2-year heifers. The gift lamb competition carries an excellent first prize of $100 this show and farmers usually support this class well.
