Pipiriki park man
Twenty-six applications for the position of park assistant with the Whanganui National Park were received, according to senior conservation officer at Pipiriki, Dennis McDonnell. Mr McDonnell said applications closed midDecember while interviews were held preceding Christmas. The successful applicant was J a m e s Campbell, 28, formerly of Wanganui. Mr Campbell was a PEP supervisor on the construction of the Aramoana
Walkway that was opened last year and spent considerable time in the Pipiriki area during that time. His knowledge of the river coupled with his engineering skills make him a valuable asset to Pipiriki, said Mr McDonnell, Mr Campbell's duties include maintenance of the
vehicles and boats belonging to the Department of Conservation. His appointment brings the number of full-time officers based in Pipiriki to three, with two additional part-time staff. Mr McDonnell said the station had two extra part-time workers until the position was filled.
