The 1987 ski season ended for Whakapapa on Sunday and for Turoa last Wednesday, after a "mixed bag" of a season. With snowfalls right on time the fields opened as planned in July and all looked set for a bumper season, but heavy rainfalls in August washed away much snow, which wasn't replaced until September. Despite the washout and mechanical problems for Turoa many skiers were seen to do a few good turns. It has been said that there are three kinds of skiing - good, great, and Absolutely Fantastic! Most would have to say that this year has been good.
