Officer praised

Long-serving Hydatids Control Officer for the Waimarino County Council, Howard Wise, who retires on 2 November, was praised for his 12 years of dedicated work at the Ohakune Borough Council meeting last Thursday. It was agreed at the meeting that Noxious Plants and Hydatids Control authorities combine and come under the control of new officer Joe Martin. Council acknowledged that Mr Martin will require some assistance with the double work load. Raetihi borough foreman Craig Ryland will act in a relieving capacity for Mr Martin. It was decided that four hours per week be allocated to dog ranging, the salary for the ranger to be paid by the authority and not by the ratepayer.
