Pine fire

Raetihi Volunteer Firemen spent a gruelling three hours fighting a hazardous blaze in a small pine plantation, 47km south of Raetihi on the Parapara Highway. Firemen used beaters to put out the flames because of the lack of accessible water. Firemen returned to Raetihi at 1am, four hours after the initial call-out, after making absolutely sure the blaze was completely out and not still smoldering under pine needles.
