Lift company sponsors skiers

Two ski racers have had their training funds increased with the announcement of the Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Racing Scholarship for 1987. Carey Stevens from Taupo and Ben Tidswell from National Park have both received $2000 to assist with their northern hemisphere race training programme. Stevens, aged 14, and Tidswell, aged 15, are members of the Whakapapa Ski Team who have shown exceptional performance and a professional attitude

to their training. While the scholarship is a special Centennial project the General Manager for Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, Mr Dave Mazey announced while presenting the awards that the company was considering presenting the scholarship on an ' annual basis. The two scholarship winners will join approximately fourteen other ski team members leaving for the U.S.A. and Canada to train over the northern hemisphere winter.
