Full information required for fair assessment

Funds totalling $126,950 have been granted to 52 social service organisations in the Wanganui and Rangitikei districts under the Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS). From the 69 applications received from throughout the district, the COGS Distribution Committees gave priority to those groups who were disadvantaged most by race, sex, age, disability, location or employment opportunities. Groups who would be able to find other financial assistance were given a low priority. Waimarino groups receiving funds from this latest allocation of funds include the Waiouru Plunket Society ($3,000), Maungarongo Marae ($8,400), Waimarino Plunket Society ($1,000), Waimarino Citizens Advice Bureau ($2,000) and the Whakangahau Mahi Trust ($3,000). The next closing date for applications is 16 October 1987, and with the limited funding available, all groups are encouraged to include as much information as possible about the work they do in the community, to enable the

committee to fairly assess applications. COGS is a Government funding programme established to help community social service groups in recognition of the vast amount of work they are doing in their community, often with very limited resources. The allocation of COGS funds is the responsibility of the Local Distribution Committee, its 12 members having been nominated from the community social service groups it represents. The Wanganui District is

represented by two committees: Wanganui-Patea Local Distribution Committee and the WaimarinoRangitikei Local Distribution Committee. The objective of COGS is to support essential social services which work towards the full development of individuals, groups and communities. The purposes eligible for COGS funding include: salaries, volunteer expenses, overheads, training and travel costs for personnel and project planning and development, meetings and facilitator fees.
