A week for pre-schoolars

'Kindergarten in the Community' is the focus of the Ohakune Kindergarten during the national awareness week from 27 September to 3 October. Special features of the week include a teddy bear's picnic and trike-athon, to be held on Saturday 26

September at the Kindergarten and adjoining Ohakune Primary School. Co-ordinator Vera Donnelly said the children will be sponsored for completing a total of 10 laps of the playground, with the proceeds going towards the construction of a slide hill and other outdoor development at the Kindergarten. On Wednesday, the

normal play group session will be extended by an hour and the facilities will be at the disposal of parents and their children. A 10-week P5 course gets underway Thursday evening. The course offers parents new ideas on how to be a more confident parent, how to make parenting more fun and offers ways of better understanding childrens' behaviour. A display of pre-school-ers' work will be at the Ohakune branch of the Trustee Savings Bank for the entire week. Mrs Donnelly described Kindergarten as the ground floor for all community health and social services available to children, including sight and hearing testing, psychological and speech therapy.
