WORK FOR CUBS
Ruapehu Cubs are out and about in the community for the next two weeks in a fund-raising effort for a proposed trip to Wellington next year. The 18 cubs, aged 8-11, will be approaching retailers and the community for any small jobs that require doing, which could include picking up rubbish, weeding gardens, stacking wood and cleaning windows. Cub leader Helen Hammond said the boys will be looking for smaller, less demanding jobs suitable for their age and capabilities. "I would rather they worked at 10 shorter jobs for fifty cents each than one long difficult job that pays five dollars," she said. Mrs Hammond said the Cubs are required to work in pairs because of their age and inexperience. Money raised from the work weeks will be put towards the Ruapehu Cub Pack's trip to the Hutt Valley early next year, to visit the St Frances Xavier Cub Pack who visited the Waimarino in August.
