Music Exam Passes
Three of Mrs A. Greenwood's pupils took part in the Music Section of the Wanganui Competitions on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 September. Jason Enright and Sina Cotter entered in the 9-11 years Test, Own Selection, Sightreading and Piano solo, no previous placing. Rachael Chan entered in 7 classes in the 11-13 years age group. They enjoyed the friendly rivalry and their first experience of playing a grand piano. As the results indicate the time they had spent in practise and preparation was well rewarded. Results 9-11 years, Test 'Pony Ride' Sina Cotter 2nd, Jason Enright Highly Commended. Own Selection Sina Cotter lst, Jason Enright 3rd. Sightreading Jason Enright lst. Piano Solo (no previous placing ) Jason Enright lst, Sina Cotter 2nd. 11-13 years, Test 'The Harlequin' Rachael Chan 2nd. Sightreading lst and 2nd in Own Selection Rachael also gained second place in Class Piano Solo (no previous placing) and Class 1 Movement of a Sonata or Sonatina. She was lst in the Jazz and 3rd equal in the Contemporary (music composed from 1920 on). The Cuthbertson and Lee Challenge Cup (Test and Own Selection 9-11) was awarded jointly to Phillipa Mclntyre and Sina Cotter. The Gordon McBeth Memorial Cup (Test and Own Selection 11-13) was awarded to Rachael Chan. Richdale Awards were won by Rachael (sightreading) and Jason (Class 5). Jason also received a Registered Music Teachers' Award for Class 5 (piano solo, no previous placing). The Judge was Mrs Maureen Potter ATCL, LTCL, LRSM from Taupo.
