PONY CLUB PLANS
The Ohakune Branch of the Waimarino Pony Club started the season with an unofficial rally on Tuesday 1 September and had a good attendance in beautiful weather. Full rallies will start on Tuesday 8 September and all enquiries should be made to the Head Instructor Mrs E. Cooper. A programme of dates will be available after an Instructor's Meeting in ten day's time and rallies will generally be held on Saturdays. At the recent meeting of enthusiastic parents and riding members it was agreed to start rallies early due to the recent good weather. The first competitions are a combined training on 6 September and a practice F.E.I. day on 12 September, both at Taumarunui.
The Club will also be planning a variety of competition days locally, although regular rallies are the mainstay of any Pony Club branch. One of the main concerns is safety and parents are asked to ensure riders always wear their riding hats and check all saddlery for safety, paying particular attention to stitching and folds in the leather. New members are always welcome even if they do not have their own pony. A lot can be learnt from careful observation and the occasional ride, but caring for a pony is a full time commitment and should not be undertaken lightly. On the other hand a genuine interest should be encouraged, fosiering a love of and caring for animals which can be a two way relationship which is quite impossible with a tennis racquet or football!
