Ohakune's fifty year first
Ohakune now has a resident dentist for the first time i.i aimost 50 years. Dr Leonie Teo, originally from Malaysia, is in New Zealand with her husband Stuart Teo, a mechanical engineer with Winstone Pulp Industries. Dr Teo trained in Sydney, Australia for six years and worked for a year in a Malaysian hospital before being persuaded to come to New Zealand by her husband who has visited the country before. Dr Teo is acting assistant to Dr Russell Poff who is resident in Wanganui but travels to his surgery in Goldfinch St, Ohakune on a regular basis. The couple have applied for permanent residence in New Zealand and are keen to stay on in the Waimarino. Dr Teo said they received a warm welcome from local people who were
"friendly and helpful." Dr Teo can be contacted seven days a week at the
surgery or at her residence for emergencies or appointments.
