Art awards approaching
Artists in the Waimarino are advised that completed entry forms for the Ohakune Art Awards, previously named the Turoa Art Awards, must be in by this Friday, 21 August to be considered. Entries may be mailed or dropped in to the Information Centre in Clyde Street, Ohakune. This year's competition is well worth entering, with artists competing for more than $5000 in prize money including the premier award, valued at $2000. Entries will be accepted for seven award categorieswater colour, oij, portraiture, work in any other medium, a young artists award and an award for a talented Waimarino resident. The young artists award, open to 13 to 18 year olds, is in the form of a $500 grant. The Barnes Award' is named after Ohakune residents Bea and Dot Barnes, in recognition of their tireless work during the eight years the Awards have been run. Sponsorship this year has come from the Ohakune Borough Council and the
Waimarino Bulletin, and a private art collector from Wellington. The exhibition will again be held in the upstairs lounge of the Ohakune Club Inc, which has been
the venue for the last six years. Dot Barnes is optimistic of a good response to this year's awards as a large number of entry forms have been circulated throughout the area.
