Junction Nightclub granted licence
Hot Lava Nightclub at Ohakune Junction took a further step away from its former "school dance" image last week when it was granted a cabaret liquor » licence. The nightclub has been running as a private club until now which placed limitations on the serving of klcohol. The licence allows the nightclub to serve liquor to patrons while providing them with live entertainment. Proprietor Paul Beckett said he does not want and
doesn't expect the problem of drunkenness at the club. "Most people will be doing a lot more dancing than drinking, and that seems to reduce the effect of alcohol on people," said Mr Beckett. "We're very pleased to get the licence, after some lengthy red tape delays" he said. "Hot Lava" will provide light snacks to patrons, but will look at providing counter meals later. The nightclub has recently provided a venue for bands such as Midge Mars-
den and the Mangos, and Satellite Spies. This weekend they have the Australian band, that play such well known numbers as "Bleeding Heart" and "My Buzz-Saw Baby Really Cut Me Up", The Johnnys booked. "The Johnnys should be a lot of fun" said Paul Beckett. They're good on stage - quite theatrical". Later in the ski season Hot Lava looks forward to hosting such acts as Limbs Dance Company, Gary McCormack and Sam Hunt, and a stage show as well as several bands.
