SKIFIELD ACCIDENT

A 23 year old woman was flown to Wellington Hospital by helicopter on Sunday with possible spinal injuries after falling eight metres from the Waterfall Express chairlift at Whakapapa. The accident happened at the return station of the lift after the woman experienced difficulties boarding. The chair was stopped by an operator when he saw the woman hanging from the chair. The operators were in the process of reversing the lift when the woman lost her grip and fell to the snow below, missing the safety net. RAL, DoC and the MoT will be investigating the accident.
