Waimarino musicians' success

New Zealand Modern School of Music held one day competitions in Wanganui on Saturday 18 July. Classes were held in piano, both modern and classical, electronic organ and guitar. Although numbers were

down in some classes there was keen competition amongst those who entered. Ann Greenwood' s pupils, from the Waimarino, who entered were: Emma Cornwall, Violet Kinnard, Jenny Frew, James Foster, Rachael Chan and Shahika Perera.

They all competed in the classical piano for 10-12 years' section. Anna Dobson competed on the organ. Shanika and Rachael also entered in the Open Classical and James competed in the 'Boogie'. They were all awarded very good marks and should be pleased with their performances. The judge was Mrs Mary Smith of Hamilton. Results Classical Piano 10-12 years: Test - Shanika Perera 2nd; Own Choice - James Foster 1st equal with Angela Hood (Wanganui); Sightreading - Shanika Perera 1st, Rachael Chan 2nd. Open Classical: Test - Rachael Chan 1st, Shanika Perera 2nd; Own Choice - Rachael and Shanika 1st equal; Sightreading Shanika Perera 1st, Rachael Chan 2nd. Boogie: James Foster 2nd. Organ 10-12 years: Anna Dobson 1st Test 2nd Own Choice. Trophies : Classical Piano 10-12 - Shanika Perera. Open - Rachael Chan and Shanika Perera.
