Anti-nuclear walkers on the way

Peace Walkers who left Wellington on 18 July will , arrive in Raetihi on Monday 3 August. Approximately 25 walkers left Wellington as part of a two pronged demonstration of support for a nuclear free New Zealand, another party started from Cape Reinga and they will converge on Taupo on Saturday 15 August. On Monday 3 August the peace walkers will be available to share a meal with anyone who would like to meet with them at the . Anglican Church Hall Raetihi from 4pm. The group comprises several nationalities and very varied backgrounds so there should be some interesting people to meet. Tuesday 4 August will be a rest day for walkers to explore the beautiful Waimarino. They may ven-

ture up into the snow but will possibly think twice about 'walking' up the mountain road. Wednesday 5 August will see the peace walkers tramping from Raetihi to Horopito. Thursday 6 being Hiroshima Day, the walkers will return to Raetihi and Ohakune to distribute symbolic paper cranes and to take part in other activities to heighten awareness of

the abomination of nuclear weapons. On Friday 7 August the walkers will move on from Horopito to National Park and from there on the 9 th to Otukou marae and so on, to Taupo. The walkers say they will be very pleased to be joined for any part of their route by local people and the River Road walk departing Wanganui (Freids Settlement, Virginia Road)

on Friday 31 July via Parakino (departing 1 August), Koriniti (departing 2 August) and Pipiriki (departing 3 August) could be a very beautiful and inspiring experience for any who care to go along. Organizers say the walk has been planned to coincide with the General Election campaigns to promote the voting for candidates who take a firm anti-nucle-ar stance.
