Ohakune Council victory kept under wraps

At last week's Ohakune Borough full council meeting reference was made to the fact that the Bulletin had made no mention of the magnificent victory of the council team in

the Plunket 'mastermind' competition held on 26 June. It was suggested that the reason it wasn't reported was the council's score was vastly superior to the Bulletin team's score. But it would seem the real reason was because council's victory was widely reported by word of mouth the day after the competition and therefore needed no further publicity. The competition was held by plunket as a fund-rais-ing activity at the Ohakune Club on Friday 26 June. The event raised $420 for Ohakune Plunket, which included two of the prizes that were donated back to Plunket. The competition attracted 24 teams from the Waimarino with the council team finishing first, Raetihi Primary School second and Ruapehu College taking third after a play-off ' with the Warren Family team. Ohakune Plunket judged the event a great success and have decided it should be an annual event. One problem may be in finding a quizmaster, with College Principal Ian Meredith keen to participate as a player next year rather than fill the post. The Bulletin apologises to council for hiding their light under a bushel.
