Radio station turns again

Now in its fifth year, Ruapehu Radio will be broadcasting this ski season from studios at 'the Junction' in Ohakune. The station is to operate from the old Turners and Growers office on the cor-

ner of Mangawhero Terrace and Thames Street. The station will be F.M. on both sides of the mountain this year. Previously the transmission has been F.M. only at National Park and Whakapapa with A.M. coverage in Ohakune, Raetihi and Waiouru. "This will be our longest broadcast yet" said Station Manager David Campbell. "We will begin transmitting on 18 July and continue through to the 10th of Oetober." Many familiar voices will be back this year to work on the station, Tony Baines, Liz Barry, and Mark Thompson have all recently returned from Aus-

tralia. Mr Campbell said this year will be no exception for station promotions, and both Community and Ski Information. "We are all looking forward to an exciting broadcast and are sure the new F.M. format for the Turoa-Waimarino side will be greatly received." Mr Campbell also said that plans are afoot for some form of full time local station and hoped to have further news of the situation later in the season; "The region eertainly deserves its own Radio Station or at least some locally orientated programme" he said.
