Search and Rescue

At the time the Bulletin went to press a large number of Waimarino Search and Rescue volunteers and Police were mounting a search for four hunters overdue on a weekend trip. The search is being co-or-dinated through Wanganui. The four men, all from Taupo, failed to keep a rendezvous with Wanganui Aero Work's pilot, Jim Reed, on Sunday afternoon. Mr Reed dropped the men off on Friday morning in an area west of the Wanganui River in the vicinity of the Mangaio Stream. Ohakune Police Sergeant Neil Coker said at this stage there is no panic for the men's safety, "All four men are experienced hunters," he said.
