First meeting held for Citizens' Advice

The first public meeting of the establishing committee for the proposed Waimarino Citizen's Advice Bureau was held recently. Guest speaker at the meeting was Valerie Cotterill who is secretary of the Taihape C.A.B. She spoke to the gathering about the functions and objectives of the Bureau. She then answered questions which ranged from training to general administrative details involved in setting up a Bureau. Chairman of the Establishment Committee, Judy Doyle reported that there were 14 volunteers ready to begin training as advice service workers. Training will begin as soon as possible and up to 20 people would be trained initially, she said. The committee acknowledged a donation of $100 from the Ohakune Women's Social Group. It was decided that the money would be used to purchase stationery and stamps so that lobbying of local clubs and organisations for further

support could begin. Permanent premises for the Bureau were also discussed at length with the general opinion being that the present R.E.A.P. premises in Ohakune were unsuitable for long term use. The committee agreed that the service should be located in a visible and accessible locality, in either Ohakune or Raetihi.
