College Basketball
The Ruapehu College Girl's Basketball team are making quite a name for themselves regionally and around the country as a skilled team. Coach Bubs Hibbard recently entered the team in the Wanganui secondary school's 'Friday night League', to give the girls a chance to compete against skilled teams from the Wanganui area.
The League runs for eight weeks with the first practice night on 5 June. Mrs Hibbard said the Friday night practices will be invaluable as the team will be under the guidance of national level coaches and some tough competition from other secondary schools. "This league is a tremendous opportunity and will be of benefit to the whole team," she said. The group are presently fundraising to cover the costs of affiliation fees, team subscription and transport to the practice every Friday evening. One such fundraising venture planned is a sponsored 'free throw', to be held at the college on 17 June.
