Waimarino--Waiouru Soccer Game Drawn
Last Saturday saw the commencement of the secondary school competition. Taumarunui, winners of the competition last year, had a promising 8-0 win at home against Turangi with Nigel Anstis and Stuart Varton both scoring hat tricks and Andrew Vernon scoring the other two. In the other match Ruapehu College 1 were convincing winners over Ruapehu College 2. Ruapehu 2 made a promising start with Aaron Ram scoring their only goal in the first minute of play. Ruapehu 1 slowly regained control and led 41 at half time. A flurry of goals half way through the second half helped take the final score to 11-1. Draw for Saturday 13th. Ruapehu College 1 travel to Taihape. Ruapehu College 2 play Taumarunui at Ruapehu College kickoff 10.30. In the senior Furniture House league Waimarino United travelled to Waiouru
to play Cadets A, the only unbeaten team to date in the league. Having narrowly lost to Cadets in the first round, Waimarino were determined to reverse the result. Waimarino took the lead early in the first half when James Waerea headed the ball in. John Laurenson scored shortly after to give what seemed to be a commanding 2-0 lead. Cadets A got one goal back just before half time to give a half time score of 2-1. Despite some excellent defending by Tom Ball and Roy Walker, Cadets were able to level the score at 2-2 shortly into the second half. Neither team was able to score again despite numerous close attempts with James Waerea beating all bar the goal posts on no less than two occasions in the last twenty minutes. Draw for 14 June. Hautu v Cadets A Turangi 12.45. Cadets B v Taumarunui Taumarunui 2.30. Rangipo v Celtics
