College basketball reps
In conjunction with the Ruapehu Basketball Association, a number of Ruapehu College pupils were selected for various teams to compete in the New Zealand National under-18 Tournament held in Wanganui from 11-14 May. Players in the Ruapehu Basketball Association Team were Tania Hibbard (Captain), Robyn Parata, Gloria Dewes, Annette McDonnell, Donna Taituma, Francis Taituma and Kylie Anderson. Players for the Waiouru Basketball Association girl's team were Melissa Brown, Janine Stephens, Cheryl Mateara, Sandrena Phillips, Keryn Diamond, MJ Brown, Donna Ngarewa and Kaylene Saunders. The boy's team was Aaron Harmon, Maraho Rukupo, Hape Rukupo, Regan Sue, Richard Mareikura, Shane Vagar and Marcus Topine. In the under-18's, RBA played off with Dannevirke
for 3rd and 4th positions. Dannevirke won their game and RBA was placed 4th. Waiouru girls played for 5th and 6th position against Hamilton and took 5 th place. Waiouru boys played well but lost their game. From the tournament a squad of nine players was selected to compete in the under-20 tournament held in New Plymouth 18-21 May. The team played under the name of Central Districts. Ruapehu College pupils Kaylene Saunders and Tania Hibbard were selected to play in the Central
Districts team. Coach Bubs Hibbard said it was a "terrific honour" for the players to be selected.
