King Country Pony Club AGM

ihe King Country Area Pony Club consists of two clubs, the Waimarino and the Taumarunui Clubs, each with their own branches. The area Annual General Meeting was held in Raetihi on 28 May. Reports were received from the Area Delegate, Mrs A. Roke, the two District Commissioners, the Manager, the Trainer, the Team Captain of the Area Riding team that competed at the Pony Club National Championships in Auckland. All reports are very full, interesting and informative but the impressions of those who went to Auckland are the highlight. All spoke of a most rewarding trip, although often in wet weather for three of the six days, and all riders were supported by family and friends. The team was unplaced, this was inevitable as they are only half a team (no senior riders) but acquitted themselves well, all finishing the event and gaining valuable exper ience.

The crowds of people had startling effects on the ponies at times. They spent too much time looking around instead of listening to their riders. A new award was instigated this year for horsemanship, again the King Country were not eligible being half a team, but in the cross country phase they were applauded for the way they rode and also for the after care of their ponies. This praise alone is probably worth more than a rosette, as the ponies have to do a lot of the hard work. Officers elected were Area Delegate Mrs A. Roke, Deputy Area Delegate Mrs D. Taylor, Sec/Treas Mrs A. Shields who with the representatives from the branches make up the committee. The Area Horsemastership Quiz, was set for Saturday 29 August in the Waimarino and the next time most members will get together will be at the Annual Conference in Ohakune on 20 and 21 June.
