Water engineers sought
A move to appoint new consultant engineers for the Ohakune water treatment system was stalled at last week's full council meeting. Councillor Ben Goddard moved that Royds Garden, of Palmerston North, be appointed as consultant engineers for the project. Mayor Bill Taylor then moved that the motion lie on the table until next month's full council meeting. Mr Taylor said it was unfortunate that the matter was raised when one third of the borough councillors wereabsent. Mayor Taylor's
motion was passed after he used his casting vote. The town's present consultant engineers Payne Sewell Ltd of Wanganui, were to be advised that the council had not finally resolved the matter of the consultant engineers for the improvements to the water supply. Payne Sewell had advised council against choosing the ultra-violet method of disinfection which is incorporated in the system accepted by council. The present engineers have said that there will be a three to eight month wait for the equipment to arrive in
the country after it is ordered. Mayor Bill Taylor said council may be looking at a two year time frame to cover the water treatment project implimentation. Councillor Ben Goddard said after the meeting that he would arrange a meeting with council and a Royds Garden representative to discuss the project. He said he would like Royds Garden and Water Tech Services Associates ro be the project consultants because they have a great deal of knowledge on water systems, including ultra-violet disinfection treatment.
