Fiji basketball tour

Cont'd from page 13

effort. The player of the match award went to Janine and Kaylene Saunders. The third game was against one of the top teams 'Drevula' who won the tournament. They were just too superior, but our team did not disgrace themselves and put up a fine effort losing 47-21. They were big ladies which made it hard for us to do anything. However the score was no indication of our play — we had already won 50% of the game by playing our hardest. The t player of the match award went to MJ Brown and Tania Hinana. Our final game was against Crusaders who were from Lautoka. That was an excellent game with the score finishing up at 27-2 1 to them, which put us out of the quarter finals. It was a very close game, enjoyable to play and a pity we lost. The player of the match award went to Sandrena and Cheryl. As each game was played we improved our level a lot. Excellent games were played by all the girls. The Vogue teams made it to the quarter finals and were put out after those games. The tournament ended with Boston beating Army (Men) 71/41 and Drevula beating Ventures (Women) 45-30 (all local teams from Suva). A most enjoyable and well organised tournament. Tuesday 21 April 1987 At this point I would like to thank Tania very much for a well written report on the Basketball tournament and I would also like to endorse her words that the

team played exceptionally well and I too would like to congratulate the team on the sporting way they played all the games. Player of the match awards was also given to the two golden oldies who played throughout the tournament, Mrs Vine and myself. The team's player of the tournament award went to Tania Hibbard, who I must say, gave 1 10% in every game she played — well done.
