College riders do well
Four Ruapehu College horse enthusiasts fared well at Turangi recently during this year's interschool Gymkhana. Tongariro High School played host to over 50 competitors from schools in the Bay of Plenty area, which extends as far south as Taumarunui and Turangi. Tanya Taylor (captain), Paula Greenwood, Sharon Wagstaff and Janine McllIroy performed well in the face of stiff competition with their team being placed 4th out of eight competing schools.
Paula Greenwood riding 'Grumpy' and Sharon Wagstaff on 'Amber' competed in the 14 years and under category, while Tanya Taylor on 'Riccochet' and Janine Mclllroy on 'Cossack' competed in the 16 years and over. RESULTS: Paula Greenwood: 2nd dual jump, 4th bending. Sharon Wagstaff: 2nd dual jump, 3rd barrel-race, 4th combination jump, 3rd groom and turnout. Janine Mclllroy: 2nd dual jump, 3rd groom and turnout, 4th combination jump, 4th best rider. Tanya Taylor: lst FE1, lst bending, 3rd groom and turnout, 2nd dual jump, 2nd best rider over hurdles, 3rd best rider, 4th barrel race.
