Ladies' bowls win

On 17 October 1985 the Ohakune women's bowling club won the coveted Simonsen's Cup in a game against Durie Hill in Wanganui. Now, two full seasons and 25 challenges later, Ohakune still hold the Cup. Ohakune came up against Wanganui East in this season's final challenge for the Simonsen's Cup, played last Tuesday. Ohakune ladies Elaine Cornwall (lead), Betty Hammond (2), Vi Brown (3) and Audrey Nation (skip), played the Wanganui East team of Anne MacCrossin (lead), Margaret O'Leary (2), Margie Glover (3) and Audrey Kenny (skip) on what was a brilliantly fine afternoon. A thrill for the team came during the 1 7th end when all eight bowls played by Oha-

kune counted towards the score! The final score was 31/15 — an impressive win by our local players. Next season's bowls starts in October this year. PLUCK CUP After the success of the Simonsen's Cup challenge, the Ohakune ladies polished the season off by also retain-

ing the Pluck Cup. With a very good team effort, Wai Brown (lead), Rita Kaiwhare (2), Vi Brown (3) and Audrey Nation (skip) challenged and beat the Hunterville team of E. Goodwin (lead), M. Bartlett (2), P. Gibbs (3) and D. Laing (skip). The final score after the 21st end was 26-1 1.
