Slim win for leaders
Ohakune-Karioi senior rugby team are the only unbeaten team in the Northern Wanganui competition after a slim victory against Huia on Saturday. The team scraped in with a 10-9 win after having to battle in the second half. In other games on Saturday Utiku Old-Boys beat Raetihi 12-6 and Taihape Pirates beat Waiouru 6-4. Ohakune-Karioi might have lost to Huia near the end when Huia were awarded a penalty near to the posts, but they chose to run the ball and were blocked by the OhakuneKarioi defence. Huia led by 9-6 at the end of the first half thanks to a strong forwards effort. For Ohakune-Karioi Steve CameTon scored a try and Lachlan Harding kicked two penalty goals. Dean Chase scored the try
for Huia and Paul Hekenui kicked the conversion and a penalty goal. Waiouru had a hard job trying to break through the strong defence of the Taihape Pirates in their game on Saturday at Waiouru. Hamish Harding kicked two penalties for the Pirates and Jock McCauley touched down for Waiouru. Utiku Old Boys beat Rae-
tihi with a converted try and two penalty goals on Saturday. All Utiku's points were scored by back Vaughan Marfell, while the goals for Raetihi were kicked by Thomas Waara. Marfell scored his try for Utiku in the last few minutes of the game to take the lead. Raetihi was in the lead 6-3 at half time.
