Family Planning study
An intensive first postgraduate course was eompleted recently by Noleen Sommerville. Noleen, who has been an accredited New Zealand Association of Natural Family Planning teacher for three years, said that all teachers must complete post graduate refresher courses every three years. Training to become an accredited teacher involves an intensive one year course, including written work, role playing and supervised
teaching. The post graduate training offers opportunities to keep up to date with the latest research into fertility awareness and refreshers on teaching methods. Topics covered at this course included management of clients who are breastfeeding, those who have discontinued other methods of contraception, the pre-menopausal client and those trying to conceive. Natural Family Planning clinics are offered in Raetihi and Waiouru.
