Skifield manager on tourism council
New Zealand Ski Fields Limited Managing Director, Mr A. D. R. (Tony) Wright, has recently received two very fitting plaudits recognising the major contribution he has made to New Zealand tourism. His appointment earlier this month to the New Zealand Tourism Council by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Mike Moore, acknowledges his major involvement with the New Zealand ski industry since first becoming involved with Turoa Skifields in 1974. The Tourism Council is appointed to assess and advise upon the major developments and trends affecting the growth of the tourism industry in New
Zealand and to advise upon activities and policies required to achieve the most beneficial expansion of the industry.
Tony Wright's involvement with the Tourism Council follows closely behind his appointment to
the Winter Olympics Committee last November. Under the chairmanship of prominent businessman, Bob Jones, the committee is probing the feasibility of hosting the Winter Olympics and other major international ski events in New Zealand. Mr Wright's extensive knowledge of the New Zealand ski industry and his considerable experience in overseas ski marketing will be extremely valuable in undertaking this entrepreneurial investigation. In addition to his management responsibilities with New Zealand Ski Fields Limited and Turoa Skifields Limited, Mr Wright isalso a member of the Overseas Ski Marketing Group and chairman of the New Zealand Ski Areas Association.
