Plunket help for mothers

Get Well Bags', a scheme devised to help jnothers cope when they I re faced with houseoound children, will soon be in operation in Waiouru. Waiouru Plunket and the Health Watch Committee devised the bags which contain an assortment of games, toys and other novelties to keep sick or bed-ridden children amused and in doing so, taking some of the pressure off the parent.

Parents may ring any of the volunteer contacts for a bag to be delivered to the home. The contents of the bag depends on the age and interests of the child. For example a bag for a 7-year old girl may contain two books, puzzles, and some wool with instructions on how to make a pom-pom. Pupils from the Waiouru Primary School have been involved with designing puzzles and games for the service, while assistance has also come from the Children's Library, Play Centre and Waiouru Drapery who donated material for the bags. Because it is a free service to mothers in Waiouru, donations are gratefully accepted. Any surplus money will be used to buy new books for the Children's Library. Co-ordinator of the service Maggie Ball said organisers are hopeful that some bags will be in circulation by Easter.
