EARTHQUAKE

Although there are no reports of anyone in the Waimarino feeling the recent Bay of Plenty earthquake the event was detected. The seismograph at Whakapapa park headquarters recorded the earthquake and was almost immediately noticed doing so by park staff standing near the machine. No local activity has been recorded or observed though the possibility of associated volcanic events does exist after a large earthquake. The crater lake temperature remains at 21° and the colour is the usual battleship grey.
