Waimarino Rodeo proves popular
A good crowd turned out for the 1987 Waimarino Rodeo despite being held on the same day as the Desert Fair in Waiouru. The numbers were swelled by the group of cowpunchers and bareback riders who follow the rodeo circuit from centre to centre to take part in cOmpetition. Sgme impressive bareback riding and cattle roping displays thrilled the crowd, who later witnessed the prowess of plucky 'matadors' faced with a fiesty
bull that refused to leave the ring. Some quick thinking and fast footwork got the cantankerous cattlebeast back in his pen. A good number of local competitors showed their ability against strong opposition and there were plenty of supporters from the Waimarino watching and cheering them on from the sidelines. The usual sideshows and a mini motorbike arena were added attractions on the day.
