Raetihi shop broken into again
Raetihi's Mayor Garrick Workman, also manager of Farmer's Trading Company, said last week he was "disgusted" by the most recent break-in of the store that occurred at 12.30am last Tuesday night. A road sign that was lying on the ground from the recent work on the resealing of Seddon Street, was hurled through the plate glass window of the menswear display. Staff are still unsure as to what was taken in the smash-and-grab but it is known that the store 'ssecurity alarm sounded immediately and offenders would have had little time to gather goods. Last week's break-in was the 4th such incident in the last 6 months and in each case, thieves ransacked the menswear department. Mr Workman said he has considered the possibility of installing security screens in the windows, similar to thosefitted nightly to Boyd's Jewellers display window. Further security measures to the store will be on the authority of Farmer's Trading Company head office. Meanwhile, the staff of the Raetihi store are considering moving stock away from the window area and hopefully away from temptation.
