Raetihi still without doctor
Raetihi is still without a resident doctor. Dr James Eva from South Africa, has bought the Raetihi practice from Dr Henry Plant but has been unable to take up his position for a variety of reasons. Dr Eva is at present waiting for his immigration application to be processed. Wanganui Area Health Board representative Dorothy Scarrow said the area health board has supported DrEva's application. Health Department approval is
needed for a Doctor to be allowed to immigrate and work as a doctor in New Zealand, she said. The Labour Department would not say how long it would take to process Dr Eva's application. The fact that he is a doctor will have no bearing on the speed his application is processed, said a spokesman. The area health board has been unable to find a locum for the practice, partly because Dr Eva's arrival date is not known.
