Ohakune Jubilee programme

Saturday 14th February Invitation rugby match Rochfort Park. 2pm curtain raiser — Ruapehu Golden Oldies v King Country Foresters. 3pm midgets. 3.30pm Main game — Ohakune Jubilee Team v Invited visitors. 8pm Sportsperson's dinner Ohakune Primary School Hall. Guest speaker Brian Lochore. Sportsperson of the year to be announced at the dinner. Sunday 15th February 2pm Vice regal visit — Sir Paul Reeves welcomed on to Maungaronga Marae. 3pm Sir Paul and Lady Reeves to attend an interdenominational church service. Ministers of all churches have been invited to officiate. Cricket match at same time -Ohakune Primary School. 7pm Senior citizens dinner -an informal occasion at Ohakune Primary School hall with Mayor, councillors and Sir Paul and Lady Reeves. Monday 16th February 9.15am Sir Paul will meet with Ruapehu College, Ohakune Primary School, Ohakune Kindergarten and Te Kohanga Reo children at the primary school. Afternoon: open day at the schools. 7.30pm Film evening - Kings Theatre featuring "Crocodile Dundee". Wine and supper evening to follow at old FCOS store, Bakery Building. $10 per ticket. Tuesday 17th February 5.30pm A family barbecue picnic at Ohakune Kindergarten grounds food stalls, games, etc. All day: open day at schools.

Wednesday 18th February Afternoon: Concert for senior citizens by school pupils & pre-school groups at primary school hall. A relay run by sailors from HMNZ Irirangi will be held to bring the charter to Ohakune to present to the Mayor at about 3pm. 7pm -Film evening at Ohakune Club - old films shot in Ohakune. Thursday 19th February All day: Opportunity to see historical displays upstairs at the Ohakune Club, display of machinery at the section next to the Lions Den in Arawa St and the Art and Craft society's collection of paintings and craft work by local identities of past and present in the FCOS building. These displays will be held all week. Friday 20th February 11.30am The Royal New Zealand Navy Band will play in a charter parade starting at Christie Park and proceeding to Ohakune Borough Council where the Mayor inspects the sailors. Rear Admiral Tempero will be in attendance. All day a market day will be held with shop owners and residents dressed in period costume. Evening: Blue Beat disco will give the young people a chance to celebrate the Jubilee. Saturday 21st February 9am Floats assemble at the Ohakune Junction for

the Grand Parade. 10am Parade begins, theme "Ohakune Yesteryear". The parade will include more than 40 floats and the Navy Band. Judging will take place as the parade travels to Rochfort Park where a picnic lunch will be held. Stalls, moustache judging, various displays by Volunteer Fire Brigade, Police dogs, Ruapehu Kung Fu Club and Turoa Tumblers (gymnastics) will be held throughout the afternoon. 8pm Debutante Ball at Ohakune Primary School Hall. The debutants will be escorted by Midshipmen from HMNZS Tamaki to music by the Navy Band and presented to Leader of the Opposition, Jim Bolger and his wife. Sunday 22nd February 9.30am Registration opens for the Plunket Fun Run. 10am Fun Run begins with 8km and 4km runs from the Giant Carrot. Pram pushers and walkers also welcome. Registration $3 adults, $2 secondary school pupils, $1 children. There are spot priz.es galore. 12.30pm Bus trip for senior citizens, past residents of Ohakune and visitors. Will be taken around historic areas and sites. Tour guide will be historian and author Merrilyn George. Tickets $3. Bus leaves from information centre, Clyde St.
