Waiouru Desert Fair coming up

This year's Desert Fair looks set to be another great success if 1986 is any indication. Last year, around 10,000 people turned out to support the event and around the same number is expected again this year. The fair is on 14 March from 10am-4pm at Burn's Field — the same venue used in previous years. This year's theme is 'A Fair forthe Waimarino'and includes such events as a^

motorcycle gymkhana, best dressed truck competition and a 'Throw the Army Boot' contest — inspired by neighbouring Taihape 'sgumboot throwing event. Lion's clubs from Turangi, Taihape, Waiouru and the Ruapehu region are currently organising teams for a Super Town competition. The Super Town will be decided upon by an aggregate points system based on the results of the day's competitions.
