Fire brigade calls

Chief fire officer of the Ohakune volunteer fire brigade, Max Martin, reported that the brigade attended 43 emergency calls for 1986. This year looks set to be just as busy, with the brigade in attendance at four separate incidents since the New Year. On 1 January 1987 at 2.47pm, the Ohakune volunteer fire brigade attended a clean-up job following a car hitting a power pole on Rangataua Road. The brigade extinguished

a scrub fire on the Dreadnought Road on 2 January. The fire was put out just in time according to officials who said the burning scrub was on the edge of a pine plantation. At 7.38pm, on 6 January, firemen attended a fire at the Ohakune Municipal Rubbish tip. At 8.43pm, on 12 January, the brigade was called to clean away a petrol spillage at Cedar Court service station in Ohakune. The spillage was caused by an overflow of the underground fuel tanks.
