PROGRAMME OF EVENTS` February 14-22, 1987
Saturday February 14 Morning: Top Team competition at Ruapehu College. Also demonstration by Turoa Tumblers and Nam Wah Pai Kung Fu in the College gymnasium. Afternoon: Invitation rugby match at the Ohakune-Karioi Rugby and Sports' Club. Rochfort Park. Evening: Sportsmen's Dinner. Sunday February 15 Afternoon: His excellency. the Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Paul Reeves, will be welcomed on to the Maungarongo Marae, and will take part in a combined church service. Evening: An informal dinner with His Excellency and l.ady Reeves for senior citizens, mavor and councillors. Monday February 16 Morning: His Excellency wiil be welcomed at Ruapehu College, Ohakune Primary School and the Ohakune Kindergarten. A fternoon: Open day at schools. Evening: Film evening at the Kings Picture Theatre, Goldfinch Street. Ohakune. Tuesday February 17 Open day at schools. Family barbecue hosted by the Ohakune Kindergarten. Wednesday February 18 Afternoon: A concert for the senior citizens by Ohakune Primary School children. Evening: Variety concert at Ruapehu College. Tbursday February 19 There are no planned activities today. This is an opportunity to see all the historical displavs upstairs at the Ohakune Club. Friday February 20 Morning: At 1 1am the Royal New Zealand Navy Band will perform in a Charter Parade. It's a market day in the town. Shop owners and residents are asked to dress in period costume. Evening: The young people have their chance to celebrate the Jubilee with a disco. Saturday February 21 Morning: The Grand Float Parade leaves the Junction at 1 0.30am. Theme of the parade is "Ohakune Yesteryear". The parade will make its way through the streets to Rochfort Park. Float judging, fire brigade demonstration, moustache contest judging, stalls and a picnic lunch will make this day a day to remember. Evening: Debutante Ball at the Ohakune Primary School Hall. The debs will be escorted by cadets from the Royal New Zealand Navy. Sunday February 22 Morning: Ohakune Plunket Society's annual fun run at the "Big Carrot" site in Rochfort Park. Senior citizens, ex-Ohakune folk and visitors will be taken on a guided bus tour of the town.
