Jubilee Parade plans taking shape

The plans for next year's Ohakune Jubilee Parade are taking shape. The parade will be on Saturday 21 February, the last weekend of the Jubilee celebrations. The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade are organising the parade and so far have 25 confirmed entries and a further 30 unconfirmed floats. Deputy Chief Fireman

Ben Goddard said it would be good to have all the business-houses participate as the jubilee will be the last independent celebrations before the Borough becomes part of the Waimarino District Council. '1 think that anyone who has been in a parade in Ohakune before will remember the fun that can be had\ said Mr Goddard. 'It's a family fun day and we're hoping it

will be the biggest parade ever.' The brigade itself will have a float in the parade along with the Railways who hope to have their replica of a diesel locomotive. The Royal New Zealand Navy Band will be there and the Dominion Breweries te.am of Clydesdales and wagon decked out in full regalia may be a starter. The parade will start from the Junctionat 10.30am and make its way to Rochfort Park by about lunch time. Stalls will be put up by the Kindergarten Association and Plunket and the school committees in the rugby grounds, where lunch will be served. Most of the floats will be left on display in the grounds. After lunch there are a number of demonstrations planned including one by the NZ Fire Service. The overall theme of the parade will be 'Ohakune yesteryear'. Prizes will be awarded for the best floats in various categories including 'yesteryear' and various trades. There will be special children's sections including prizes for the best decorated bikes. A trophy will be awarded to the most outstanding entry. A moustache judging competition will also be held. Any business or organisation that is interested in entering but hasn't been contacted is most welcome to enter and can contact Max Martin, Kevin Munn, Richard Hemara or Ben Goddard for details.
