Farms And Small Holdings - More Enquiries Than Sales
REAL estate agents in Taumarunui report that business is generally 'steady' with plenty of enquiries from would be purchasers. Area manager of Wrightson/Dalgety, Mr Ron McFetridge, who handles farm saies for the company, said there have been a lot of enquiries for the larger units of over 10,000 stock units. "Buyers are looking for cheap buys, but at the moment there are niore
enquiries than saies," he said. Mr McFetridge added that while it is a buyers' market at the moment, farms are not as cheap as some buyers think they should be. John Wilson said his office was handling a lot of enquiries but they are not as busy as at this time last year. "Anyone contemplating buying a house usually likes to get the details
finalised before the holiday period when everything closes down, so enquiries are steady." Owen Stevens, of Owen Stevens Real Estate, said an uncertainty among some groups, such as Railwaysemployees, as to the future, has resulted in a slightly slower turnover in property. "Some probable buyers are unwilling to commit themselve? until they
are more certain of their futures in Taumarunui," he said. Mr Stevens also thought there has been a slowing down of transfers in and out of Taumarunui which will affect the turnover of houses. "Also, while finance is available it is hard to service loans with the high interest rates making people reluctant to borrow," he added.
